Thomas Tayeri, M.D.
Founder and CEO

Since he began practicing in Palo Alto in 1995, Thomas Tayeri, M.D., has earned a reputation as the foremost private practice glaucoma specialist in the Peninsula and South Bay. Over two hundred referring eye specialists trust Tayeri with the care of their patients with glaucoma and anterior segment disease.
Dr. Tayeri graduated from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) medical school in 1990. After completing his ophthalmology training at Stanford, he received subspecialty training in glaucoma at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. Dr. Tayeri is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmologists, a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Glaucoma Society, and past president of the Peninsula Eye Society. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha, the medical honors society.
Dr. Tayeri has been active in physician education, and has an appointment as Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at Stanford. As a Surgical Eye Expeditions International affiliate, he has brought his expertise to the developing world by helping train local surgeons and donating his time to perform numerous sight-restoring operations on patients with no other access to medical care.
Debra Cheung, O.D.
Debra Cheung, O.D., joined the Palo Alto Eye Group in 2009. Dr. Cheung received her optometry doctorate degree with honors from the School of Optometry at the University of California, Berkeley. She is board certified by the National Board of Optometry and therapeutic-glaucoma certified. She specializes in soft and rigid multifocal contact lens fitting and is certified for orthokeratology using CRT lenses for myopia control. She is an active member of the American Optometric Association and the Santa Clara Optometric Society.
Dr. Cheung speaks fluent Mandarin and Cantonese and loves to learn new languages, currently focusing on Spanish in her spare time. She enjoys hiking at Foothills Park and loves playing strategic board games with her husband and friends.
